2,500년 시간을 거스른 계란 꾸러미

 
Archaeologists working in Shangxing Town near Nanjing, eastern China, uncovered a clay jar containing around 20 eggs believed to date back approximately 2,500 years to the Spring and Autumn period (770–476 BCE). 

The eggs were found sealed inside a lidded pottery jar within a multi-level tomb complex consisting of 38 burial chambers.

The site is thought to have belonged to a prominent family, and the chamber where the eggs were discovered contained a full set of cookware and dining vessels — suggesting the tomb’s occupant held elevated social status. 

Although the contents of the eggs have likely deteriorated over time, the shells — described as greenish-blue — remained largely intact.

Experts note that the shells are primarily composed of calcium, which helped preserve their form across millennia. 

The discovery was made by archaeologists from the Nanjing Archaeological Institute and the Liyang Museum. The eggs are expected to undergo laboratory analysis for further study. 

Food offerings in tombs were common in ancient China, reflecting beliefs about sustaining the deceased in the afterlife. 

The find provides insight into burial customs and daily life during the Eastern Zhou era.

중국 동부 남경 인근 상싱진Shangxing Town[중국어 원문을 찾아봐야 한다]에서 발굴 작업을 진행하던 고고학자들이 춘추시대(기원전 770~476년)로 추정하는 약 2,500년 전 달걀 약 20개가 담긴 도기 항아리를 발견했다.

달걀은 38개 무덤방burial chambers으로 이루어진 다층 무덤 단지 내 뚜껑이 있는 도기 항아리 안에 밀봉된 채 발견되었다. [좀 이상한데 암튼 그대로 옮긴다.] 

이 유적은 유력 가문 무덤으로 추정되며, 달걀이 발견된 무덤방에서는 조리 도구와 식기류가 함께 출토되어 무덤 주인이 높은 사회적 지위를 지녔음을 시사한다.

달걀 내용물은 시간이 흐르면서 부식되었겠지만, 녹청색을 띠는 달걀 껍질은 대부분 온전하게 보존되었다.

전문가들은 껍질 주성분이 칼슘으로 이루어져 있어 수천 년 동안 형태를 유지할 수 있었다고 분석한다.

이 발견은 난징 고고학 연구소와 리양 박물관 고고학자들이 했다.

발견된 달걀은 추가 연구를 위해 실험실 분석을 거칠 예정이다.

고대 중국에서는 무덤에 음식을 바치는 것이 일반적이었는데, 이는 사후 세계에서 죽은 자를 보살펴준다는 믿음을 반영한 것이다.

이 발굴은 동주 시대 매장 풍습과 일상생활에 대한 통찰력을 제공한다.
