니체는 이렇게 말했다 (1)

아마도 사람들한테서 가장 많은 오해를 사는 철학가 중 한 사람일 니체 이야기다. 

대개 니체 하면 신은 죽었다 따위의 모호한 이야기만 하다 간 사람으로 아는데 

실제로 그가 한 말을 들어보면 촌철살인 사람들 의표를 찌르는 명언이 많다. 

“It is not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages.”...불행한 결혼생활을 만드는 것은 사랑의 부족이 아니라 우정의 부족이다.

“That which does not kill us makes us stronger.”...우리를 죽이지 못하게 하는 것이 우리를 더 강하게 만든다.

“I'm not upset that you lied to me, I'm upset that from now on I can't believe you.”...나한테 거짓말을 해서 화가 난 게 아니라, 지금부터 그런 당신을 믿을 수 없게 되서 화가 난다.

“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”...괴물과 싸우는 자는 그 과정에서 자신이 괴물이 되지 않도록 조심해야 한다. 그리고 심연을 오랫동안 들여다본다면, 그 심연도 당신을 들여다볼 것이다.

“There is always some madness in love. But there is also always some reason in madness.”...사랑에는 언제나 어느 정도의 광기가 있다. 하지만 광기에는 언제나 어느 정도의 이성도 있다.

“You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist.”...네가 생각한 대로 하라. 나도 내 맘대로 한다. 옳은 길, 올바른 길, 유일한 길은 존재하지도 않는다.

“Sometimes people don't want to hear the truth because they don't want their illusions destroyed.”...때때로 사람들은 자신의 환상이 깨지는 것을 원치 않기 때문에 진실을 듣고 싶어하지 않는다.

“There are no facts, only interpretations.”...팩트란 없다. 오직 해석만 있을 뿐. 

“The man of knowledge must be able not only to love his enemies but also to hate his friends.”...지식이 있는 사람은 적을 사랑할 줄 알아야 할 뿐만 아니라 친구를 미워할 줄도 알아야 한다.

“The snake which cannot cast its skin has to die.”...허물을 벗지 못하는 뱀은 죽기 마련이다.

“In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule.”...개인에게 광기가 드물다. 그러나 집단, 정당, 국가, 시대에서는 광기가 일반적이다.

“The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.”...청소년을 타락시키는 가장 확실한 방법은 생각이 다른 사람보다 생각이 비슷한 사람을 더 존중하도록 가르치는 것이다.

“Faith: not wanting to know what the truth is.”....믿음이란 진실이 무엇인지 알고 싶어하지 않는 것이다.

“There are two different types of people in the world, those who want to know, and those who want to believe.”...세상에는 두 가지 유형의 사람이 있다. 알고 싶어하는 사람과 믿고 싶어하는 사람 말이다.

“All things are subject to interpretation. Whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.”....모든 것은 해석의 대상이다. 주어진 시점에 어떤 해석이 우세하든 그것은 권력의 작용이지 진실의 작용이 아니다.

“Silence is worse; all truths that are kept silent become poisonous.”...침묵이 더 나쁘다. 침묵 속에 묻힌 모든 진실은 독이 된다."

“In truth, there was only one christian and he died on the cross.”...사실, [참된] 그리스도인은 오직 한 명뿐이었고 그는 십자가에서 죽었다.

“You should become the person you are.”...[이 말은 번역에 자신이 없다. AI가 답하기를 "to develop into the individual you are truly meant to be, embracing your unique qualities and potential, while also striving to be the best version of yourself"이라 한다.]  

“A thought, even a possibility, can shatter and transform us.”...생각은 그 하나만으로도, 심지어 가능성 하나조차도 우리를 산산조각 내고 변하게 할 수 있다.

“Talking much about oneself can also be a means to conceal oneself. ”...너무 많이 자신에 대해 떠벌리는 일은 실은 자신을 감추는 수단일 수 있다.

니체가 나중에 헷가닥 정신이 가서 그렇지, 인간 심연을 갈파하는 말을 많이 했다. 그는 셰익스피어에 버금하는 명구 제조기였다. 

나중에 훅 갔을 때 남긴 말도 제법 쓸 만한 문구가 많다. 

역시 사람은 미쳐야 제대로 사물이 보이나 보다.
