Buddhas (or Sculptures) Carved on the Rock Surface at Tapgok Valley of Mt. Namsan, Gyeongju, the Capital of the Silla Kingdom / 慶州南山塔谷磨崖佛像群(摩崖造像群) / 경주 남산 탑곡 마애불상군(마애조상군)

They are believed to have been carved during the Silla or Unified Silla Kingdom period.

The name of the valley Tapgok, literally the valley of stupas, was named after the rock, on which not only a Buddha but also a sculpture of a stupa is carved.

Mt. Namsan has been a holy mountain for the people of Gyeongju, the capital of Silla since the Silla Dynasty.
