Geumcheok-ri Tumuli, Gyeongju
慶州金尺里古墳群 경주 금척리 고분군
About 30 round and gourd-shaped tombs are scattered throughout Geumcheok-ri, the suburbs of Gyeongju.
The tombs here are presumably those for low-level nobles of the Silla Period (57 B.C. ~ A.D.668).
The exact dates of their construction are not known.
Note, however, that their location and the interior structure of some of them -- as revealed during the road construction in 1952 -- indicate that they are in the style of wood-lined chamber tombs of the Old Silla Period (57 B.C. ~ A.D. 668).
Legend has it that the tombs were built by the first king of Silla, Bak Hyeokgeose, in the first century B.C..
The King, according to the legend, received a wonderful golden ruler with mysterious power from the Heavens.
When the Chinese emperor heard about it and demanded the golden ruler as a present, the Korean king ordered the 40 mounds built in haste and hid the ruler in one of them.
The village name, Geumcheok-ri (Golden Ruler Village), is said to be derived from this legend.
是庆州近郊金尺里平地上的新罗墓群，有大大小小的30多座墓葬。相传新罗始祖朴赫居世为了藏匿用天赐的金子做成的尺子(金尺)，在此地修建了40多座假墓，传说至今还完好保存在这些坟墓之中。
慶州金尺里古墳群は、慶州近郊の金尺里の平地にある新羅の墓のことで、大小様々の30余基の墓が集まっている。ここは新羅の始祖である朴赫居世が天から授かった金で作った尺(金尺)を隠すために40余基の偽の墓を作ったという伝説が伝わる所で、今日においてもこれらの墓の中に埋まっているかもしれないと伝えられる。

경주 근교 금척리 평지에 있는 신라의 무덤들로, 크고 작은 30여기의 무덤이 모여 있다.
아직 본격적인 조사는 이루어지지 않았지만 1952년에 파괴된 무덤 2기를 조사하였다. 무덤 내부는 직사각형의 구덩이를 파고 덧널(곽)을 설치한 신라 특유의 돌무지덧널무덤(적석목곽분)이다. 유물은 금귀고리와 굽은 옥 등이 수습되었다. 이곳 무덤들은 모두 경주시내의 평지 무덤들보다 규모가 작아 신라의 낮은 귀족들의 무덤으로 짐작된다.
이곳은 신라의 시조 박혁거세가 하늘에서 받은 금으로 만든 자(금자)를 숨기기 위해서 40여 개 가짜무덤을 만들었다는 전설이 내려오는 곳으로 지금도 이 무덤들 속에 묻혀 있을 것이라 전한다.
