Reopened at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Arts of Korea Gallery features items that illustrate life and rituals during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897).
It includes white porcelain ritual vessels, placenta jars, and jars decorated with dragon designs; wooden furniture; stationery items such as water droppers and an inkstone; and a Buddhist sculpture.
Moreover, a Joseon-era folding screen and contemporary artworks from the MFAH collection will be showcased together to create a harmonious aesthetic spanning from the past to the present.
In addition, environmental improvements have been made to the gallery, including replacing the showcases and flooring and repainting the walls.
The result is a new exhibition design that allows visitors to focus on the works being featured.
