It's already been 20 years since our lab first started working on mummies in 2002.
It seems like only yesterday that I was surprised to witness mummies from the Joseon Dynasty era, but now that the research is conducted in a very complete academic and ethical form, I think related research has developed a lot.
Most of research into Joseon-era mummies, which has been conducted at Seoul National University's laboratory for 20 years, has been now contained in The Handbook of Mummy Studies: New Frontiers in Scientific and Cultural Perspectives, published in 2 Volumes-1 set by Springer.
I participated as a co-editor in this book consisting of 50 chapters in total. Noted researchers from all over the world have contributed precious articles. There are about 10 chapters I have written.
Research into Joseon mummies has not completed in Korea. Professor Oh Chang-seok from Eulji University and Professor Hong Jong-ha from Kyung Hee University, who lworked together in our laboratory, will continue to take over and carry out the work.
As they are competent young researchers, I believe that the archaeological community will contribute greatly in the future.
Our lab is now starting again in search of a new area of research. It is exciting what research will be waiting for me in the future.
No matter what work we do, we ask for your support in the future.
