코끼리 상아로 만든 3천년 전 은상 시대 사치품

 
터키석 상감한 은상殷商시대 상아컵(기원전 1200년), 중국

컵 손잡이는 양식화한 용 모양이다.
1976년 하남성 안양시 은허 부호묘婦好墓 발굴품이다.

이로 보아 당시 아이보리가 사치품이었음을 안다.   

안양에서는 코끼리 뼈가 발견되기도 했다.

3000년 전 중국 기후는 따뜻했으므로 그 당시 코끼리는 지금보다 훨씬 더 북쪽까지 살았을 것으로 본다.

Ivory Cup Inlaid with Turquoise (1200 BC), China :

The handle of the cup is in the shape of a KUI - a stylized dragon. it was unearthed in 1976 from one of the only intact royal tombs in China; of Lady Fu Hao in Anyang City, Henan Province, one of the oldest dig sites in China. Yinxu was a Shang Dynasty capital. Ivory was a luxury item there. 

An elephant skeleton was found at Anyang, as the climate of China was warmer 3000 years ago, then elephants probably lived much further to the north than they do now.
