대장간 blacksmith's (Daejanggan) in Korea

The 'daejanggan' has been a place where iron was heated to make various tools, and it was mainly located in rural markets.

Wandering blacksmiths visited the village far from the market.

The daejanggan was equipped with various tools for blacksmithing.

The blacksmith's shop, which made various household items  was an important place for self-sufficient farming and fishing villages.

대장간은 쇠를 달구어 각종 연장을 만드는 곳으로 주로 시골장터에 있었으며 장터에서 멀리 떨어진 마을에는 떠돌이 대장장이가 직접 찾아가 대장일을 했다.

대장간에는 불을 지필 때 쓰는 풀무를 비롯해 모루, 집게, 메, 정, 물통. 숯돌 등 대장일을 위한 각종 도구들이 갖추어져 있었다.

호미, 쇠스랑, 괭이, 낫, 가래 등의 농기구뿐만 아니라 솥, 칼, 화로 등 각종 생활 용품을 만들기도 한 대장간은 자급자족하던 농어촌에서 없어서는 안 될 중요한 곳이었다.
