예비조사 결과 이 배는 길이 25미터를 넘고 몸체는 the tips and click technology(뭔 말인지???)

Press Release

The Egyptian French archaeological mission of the European Institute of Sunken Archaeology (IEASM), working in the sunken city of Heraklion in Abi Qir Bay, Alexandria, discovered a warship wreck from the Batlamic era, and the remains of an African funeral area dating back to the beginning of the fourth century. BC.

Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Higher Archaeology Council, said the ship was set to dock in the canal which was flowing along the tribal face of Amon Temple, but drowned as a result of the collapse of the temple and huge blocks falling on it during the second century. BC, due to a devastating earthquake, the fall of these stone blocks contributed to keeping the ship down the deep canal now filled with temple debris.

The head of Egyptian archaeology sector, Dr. Ayman Ashmawi, explained that the ship's wreck has been discovered under nearly 5 meters of steel clay, which represents the seabed and mixed with the effects of the temple, using underwater rigs such as Sub - bottom profiler.

Head of the European Institute of Archaeology Mission Frank Judio (IEASM), emphasized that the discovery of fast ships dating back to that time era is still very rare, and that Greek ships of this kind were completely unknown until the discovery of the Bouniqia Marsala ( 235 BC) which is our only example.

Preliminary studies indicate the ship was tall with more than 25 metres tall, and the body was built according to classic style based on the tips and click technology, however, it contains the features of the model Ancient Egyptian, hence it's a mixed type of building.

The ship has a flat bottom with a flat model, a very handy model for navigation in the River Nile and inside Delta, and was with large sail as shown in the shape of the large-dimensional mast.

As some typical traits of shipbuilding in ancient Egypt, along with reuse evidence, the ship was built in Egypt.

Professor Ehab Fahmy, head of the central administration of sunken monuments, said the mission succeeded in finding the remains of an Greek funeral area dating back to the beginning of the fourth century BC, at the entrance of the northeast channel into the city, which explains the presence of Greek merchants who lived in that city.

And control the entrance to Egypt at the estuary of the Canopian branch of the Nile. Where they were allowed to settle during the late Pharaonic era, and they held their funeral temples near the main temple of the Amon machine, but due to natural disasters, the region was destroyed, and its archaeological remains were discovered mixed at Amon Temple Stable, in excellent condition in the deep canal during ground landing caused by the phenomenon of fragility.

These monuments are witness to the richness of the temples of this city now under the Mediterranean level 7 kilometres from Abi Qir Beach.

It is worth noting that the city of Heraklion has been the largest port in Egypt over the Mediterranean, before the city of Alexandria was founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC.

Several earthquakes followed by tidal waves, caused earth fragility and collapse of an area of about 110 square kilometres of Nile Delta, with the collapse of Heraklion and Canop undersea.

The two cities have been rediscovered by the European Institute for Sunken Archaeology (IEASM) mission in cooperation with the central administration of sunken monuments of the Ministry of Tourism and Archaeology, from 1999 to 2001 AD.
