Called ἡ Τάττα  in ancient Greek, Tatta Lacus in Latin, Tuz Gölü is the second largest lake in Turkey with its 1,665 km2 (643 sq mi) surface area and one of the largest hypersaline lakes in the world.

 

In Turkish, pronounced as toos, and gaeloo respectively, Tuz means salk, Gölü means lake. 

 

터키어로는 투스 갤루 혹은 괼루 정도로 발음하는 이 호수는 글자 그대로는 소금 호수라는 뜻이다. 터키어 투스가 소금, 갤루가 호수를 의마한다. 세계 최대 영호鹽湖 중 하나다. 사막지대 형성된 호수가 염수호인 일이 많다.

 

 

 

Located in the Central Anatolia Region, 105 km (65 mi) northeast of Konya, 150 km (93 mi) south-southeast of Ankara, the lake supplies 40% of Turkey's salt production. 

 

터키 중부 아나톨리아에 자리잡은 이 호수는 콘야에서 북동쪽으로 105킬로미터, 수도 앙카라에서 남남동쪽으로 150킬로미터 떨어져 있거니와, 터키 국내 소금생산량 40%를 담당한다. 

 

 

 

 

In Tuz Gölü, salt is formed by the meteorological waters gliding underground, melting the previously formed salt domes and carrying them to the surface along tectonic lines.  

 

 

 

Occupying a tectonic depression in the central plateau of Turkey, the lake is fed by two major streams, groundwater, and surface water, but has no outlet.
