난 계림 대릉원보다 나은 곳으로 본다.

This is the tomb of King Jinpyeong , the 26th ruler of the Silla Kingdom. The round earthen mound is 40m in diameter,

and 8 m in height. The base mound was reinforced by well-dressed stones. 

During his reign, King Jinpyeong constructed Namsansinseong Fortress and repaired Myeonghwalseong Fortres. He laid a foundation for the unification of the Three Kingdoms by establishing diplomatic ties with Sui China, Chin China and Tang China. 

It is clear that this is a royal tomb of Silla, but there are many questions about the tomb of Jinpyeong. 

경주 진평왕릉 慶州眞平王發

사적 제180호. 이 능은 신라 제26대 진평왕이 모셔진 곳으로, 명활산과 낭산 사이에 있는 보문동 일대 평야에 위치한다. 봉분은 높이 약 8m, 지름은 약 40m로 둥글게 흙을 쌓은 원형봉토분이다. 봉분 아래쪽은 자연석을 이용해 호석을 돌렸으나, 현재는 몇 개만 드러난 상태다. 능 앞에 설치된 상석과 향로석은 후대에 설치된 것이다. 진평왕은 남산신성을 쌓았고, 명활성을 개축하며 서라벌의 방위를 중시헀다. 왕으로 있는 동안 고구려, 백제와 싸움이 빈번했으며, 중국의 수나라, 진나라, 당나라와의 외교에 힘써 후일 신라가 삼국을 통일하는 기틀을 마련하였다.

이곳이 신라시대 왕릉급 무덤이라는 데는 의심의 여지가 별로 없다. 다만, 이곳이 진평왕릉인가는 의문이 적지 않다.
