6.25 이전에는 흔히 보던 겨울 철새였다가 지금은 좀처럼 만나기 어려워 문화재보호법상 천연기념물이자, 야생생물보호및관리에관한법률(야생생물법)상 멸종위기 야생생물 2급으로 지정된 느시. 일명 '들칠면조'라고도 하는 이 친구가 만경강 유역에 놀러왔다가 마침 이곳을 탐조하던 문화재청 문화재전문위원 김인규 씨한테 행적이 포착되어 꼬리가 밟혔다고. 

2000년대 이후로는 철원과 여주에서 한두 개체 찔끔 발견됐다고 한다. 

언뜻 꿩과 비슷한 느낌도 준다.

A great bustard found in the Korean peninsula 

A great bustard, also called 'wild turkey', was found in in the Mangyeong River basin in Jeollabuk-do Province, located in the midwestern part of the Korean peninsula. 

Designated as a natural monument No. 206 and endangered wildlife class 2, Only one or two great bustards have been identified in Cheorwon, Gangwon-do and Yeoju, Gyeonggi-do since the 2000s. 

Great bustards are land birds known for sparse distribution on the Eurasian continent. Before the Korean War, it was a winter migratory bird commonly seen in Korea.
