Among the paints used to paint the Afrasiab painting, a legacy of the sogian period in the middle of the 7th century, the blue pigment was found to be lapis lazuli, and the red pigment was iron oxide.
The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage of Korea said on the 10th that it has discovered this through the results of local surveys and sample surveys of the mural pigments from last year to this year.
As a result of this study, plaster was used for all samples of murals. It has also been found that black paint is also a mineral pigment containing lead.
In addition, it was revealed that mural paintings were preserved by using synthetic resin materials on the surface of the colored layer in the 1970s and 1980s, during the former Soviet Union.
The survey is based on the MOU signed by the governments of Korea and Uzbekistan last year.
