During the Korean Empire period civil officials wore this type of uniform when atending official state events, diplomatic events, and royal banquets in the presence of the empire.

This uniform is embroidered with mugunghwa(rose of sharon) blossoms, the symbol of Korean Empire.

1900년(광무 4) 제정 문관복장규칙에 규정한 문관 칙임관 (정1품 ~ 종2품 관료) 1등 대례복이다.

대례복은 대한제국 시기 문관들이 황제가 참석하는 공식적인 국가 행사와 외교 행사나 궁중 연회 때 입은 제복이다.

상의에는 대한제국 상징 문양의 하나인 무궁화를 수놓았는데 그 갯수로 등급을 나타냈다.
