Special Exhibition <Treasures of Ours Treasured by Others: The Journey of Korean Cultural Heritage> by National Palace Museum of Korea

The National Palace Museum of Korea in Seoul, and the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation are presenting a special exhibition entitled <Treasures of Ours Treasured by Others: Journey of Korean Cultural Heritage> starting July 7.

The exhibition will run through September 25. Admission is free.

Box with Inlaid Mother-of-Pearl Plum, Bird, and Bamboo Design (Japan, 2012)
This is a mother-of-pearl inlaid lacquerware box that was produced in the late Joseon Dynasty. It is a high-quality piece that has been preserved in excellent condition, so it has considerable value for exhibition and research. It is being presented to the public for the first time. 나전 매화 새 대나무 상자

 

 

A Compilation of Calligraphy by Joseon Kings (USA, 2022)
This book is a compilation of calligraphy by kings of Joseon Dynasty. It was first published in 1722, but in 1725 new calligraphy was added to the book. Such an addition of later calligraphy is rarely seen in these compilations. It is being presented to the public for the first time. 열성어필 

 

 

White Porcelain Cylinder-shaped Bottle in Copper Underglaze (USA, 2022)
This is a white porcelain bottle adorned on its surface with copper pigment. It had been in the possession of Stanley Smith (1876–1954), who served as a missionary in Korea. It is an important example of the removal of cultural properties to locations aborad.It is being presented to the public for the first time.  백자 동체 통형 병 

 

 

Gathering of Officials at Dokseodang Hall (USA, 2022)
This painting produced to commemorate a social gathering among Joseon-era officials features a list of participants at the gathering. It is important as a real-scenery landscape painting showing the painting style of the early sixteenth century. It is being exhibited for the first time. 독서당 계회도
