Gakpil 각필 角筆, a pointed pen

 

 

Gakpil, literally horn pen is a pointed pen made from bamboo, bamboo, or ivory. The gakpil was used in books or scriptures to mark letters or symbols such as phrases so that only those who wrote them could see them.

It is housed at the Jongyeonggak Library of Sungkyunkwan University and currently on display in this university museum.

Some people may wonder what the gakpil on the photo is, but you can see something like a long bamboo stick in the middle of a book from the Joseon dynasty era.

 

 

 

In view of this, it seems that the gakpil was widely used even in the Joseon period.

대나무나 나나무, 상아를 깎아 만든 뾰족한 펜이다. 각필은 책이나 경전에 구결과 같은 문자나 부호 등을 눌러 표시하여 쓴 사람만이 볼 수 있도록 하기 위해 사용하였다.

성균관대학교 존경각 소장품이며 현재 이 대학박물관에 전시 중이다.

혹 무엇이 각필인가 의아해하실 분이 있겠지만 책갈피 중간에 낀 긴 대나무 막대 같은 것이 각필이다.

이로 볼 때 조선시대까지도 각필이 널리 사용되었음을 본다.
