돛을 세우는 사람들, 고대 이집트 모형 배

이 배 모형은 선원들이 돛을 다듬고 노로 조종하는 모습을 보여준다고 해설한다.

상부 이집트에서 발견되었으며, 기원전 2600년 무렵 고왕국시대 유물이라 한다.

20세기 중반 이전 그 소유주가 브리티시뮤지엄에 대여했다는데 지금은 어떤 소유권 상태인지 모르겠다. 

저런 명기明器 배는 끊임없이 나오며 유럽 웬간한 이집트 컬렉션에서는 빠지지 않는다. 

저 명기는 특이한 점이 미완성 상태를 보여준다는 점이다. 

내가 볼 때는 그렇다. 

저런 배를 왜 껴묻거리로 넣었을까?

Funeral boat, Old Kingdom
This model of a funeral boat shows its crew trimming sails and steering with the oars.

This boat was found in Upper Egypt and dated to the Old Kingdom, circa 2600 BC. It was loaned to the British Museum by a previous owner in mid-twentieth century.
