An ox made of wood, used in ipchun-gut (shamanic ritual performed on ipchun) in Jejudo is called 'nangswe' in Jeju.
This ox appears in mock plowing of ipchun-gut, wishes for a great harvest and announces the beginning of the year's farming.
Tamnarok (The Record of Tamna, 1841), written by Yi Wonjo in Joseon period, describes a hojang (chief local official) in full uniform leading a wooden ox with courtesans following him on both sides.
제주도 입춘굿에 등장하는 나무로 만든 소로, 제주도에서는 '낭쉐'라고 부른다.
이 소는 입춘굿 모의 농경에 등장하며, 풍농豊農을 기원하고 농사의 시작 시기를 알리는 역할을 한다.
조선 시대 이원조李源祚(1792~1871)가 쓴 《탐라록耽羅錄》(1841)에는 관복을 갖춰 입은 호장戶長이 나무로 만든 소를 끌고 기생들이 좌우에 서서 이를 따르는 모습이 나온다.
