Gyeongju Stone Ice Storage

 

Located on the northern turret of Banwolseong Fortress in Gyeongju, this structure was used to store ice during the Joseon Dynasty. 

The storage facility can be entered by a descending stairway on its southern side, and has three ventilation ducts installed on its arched roof.

 

The floor slopes to facilitate the flow of water from melting ice. 

 

 

The inscription on the stone monument and lintel stone records that it was built by Jo Myeong-gyeom, who converted it from a wooden storage facility to a stone one in 1738 (the 14th year of the reign of King Yeongjo of Joseon), and that it was moved to its present location four years later.

 

 

石冰库是一种存放冰块的仓库，这座石冰库位于庆州半月城里面的北边城楼上面，沿南北向狭长分布。据石碑和入口楣石记载，朝鲜英祖14年（1738）赵明谦将木制冰库改为石建，四年后由西侧迁至现在的位置，推定是这个时期的所见。而且规模和技法方面都堪称杰作。

 

 

 

石氷庫とは氷を入れておいた倉庫のことである。この石氷庫は慶州半月城内の北側の城楼の上に南北に長く位置している。石碑の入口のキーストーンによると、朝鮮英祖14年(1738)に曺命敬が木で出来た氷庫を石で築造したということと、4年後に西から今の場所へ移されたという内容が詳細に記録されている。また、規模や技法面で優れた傑作として評価されている。

석빙고는 얼음을 넣어두던 돌로 만든 창고로, 이 석빙고는 경주 반월성 안 북쪽 성루를 남북으로 관통한 채 자리한다.  

남쪽에 마련한 출입구를 통해 들어가면 계단을 통해 밑으로 내려가게 설계됐다. 안으로 들어갈수록 바닥은 경사를 지어 물이 흘러 배수가 되게 했다.

지붕은 반원형이며 3곳에 환기통을 마련해 바깥 공기와 통하게 했다. 

석비와 입구 이맛돌에 의하면 조선 영조 14년(1738), 당시 조명겸이 나무로 된 빙고를 돌로 축조했다는 사실과, 4년 뒤에 서쪽에서 지금의 위치로 옮겼다는 내용이 있어 이때 만든 것으로 본다.

 

규모나 기법면에서 뛰어난 걸작으로 평가된다.
