템즈강변 테이트 모던은 뱅크사이드 Bankside 화력발전소를 리뉴얼한 곳으로
테이트(Tate)라는 영국 미술품 소장관리 조직에 속한 미술관이다.
발전소 당시 굴뚝을 그대로 남겨 뚜렷한 랜드마크가 되고 있다.

입구에서 이어지는 거대한 터빈 홀 Turbine Hal 에서는 마침 칠레 여성 미술가이자 시인인 세실리아 비쿠냐 Cecilia Vicuña의 설치작업 “Brain Forest Quipu”가 전시 중이었다.
Quipu(퀴푸)는 매듭이 있는 실로 만든 고대 남미 일종의 미디어라고 한다.
작가인 비쿠냐는 ‘지구는 외의 숲이고 퀴푸는 모든 상호연결을 포함한다’고 했다.

장중한 설치에 마치 우주에서 접속하는 듯한 음향효과가 더해져 경외로움이 느낌이 밀려왔다.
한편, 야요이 쿠사마와 세잔느 등 굵직한 작가전이 열리고 있었는데, 그만한 규모의 전시를 다시 보기는 어려울 것 같아 세잔느를 택했다.
특유의 청녹색으로 꽉 찬 정물화들과 생 빅트와르산 연작들은 그의 힘이 넘치는 필력에 생동하는 느낌이었다.

그 외에 개인적으로 좋아하는 한국작가 양혜규의 블라인드를 이용한 연작 중 거대한 설치작품 또한 인상적이었다.

전시를 보고 나오니, 부슬비가 가늘게 비스듬히 내리는데
천지는 비에 젖어 어둡고 강 너머로 세인트폴 성당 돔이 보였다.
