구 철도청 대전지역 사무소 보급창고 3호 舊鐵道廳大田地域事務所補給倉庫三號

유의미한 기억을 발판으로 대전역을 오간지 대략 20년. 

정문격인 서광장 반대편 동광장은 개통이 늦었다고 기억하거니와 

이 동광장을 이용할 때마다 지금은 대전역 주차장 부지로 쓰는 이 넓은 광장 한가운데를 차지한 저 널판대기 슬레이트 지붕 건물은 정체가 언제나 궁금했다.

그러던 차 오늘은 이쪽으로 문상할 일이 있어 대전역에 내린 김에 저 정체를 까발리고 말겠다는 일념으로 다가 가니

싱겁다.

저리한 안내판이 떡하니 선 게 아닌가?

이걸 보니, 궁금한 사항은 대전역 역무과로 연락하라 하니, 철도청에서 전환한 철도공사 소유인가 보다.

구 철도청 대전 지역 사무소 보급 창고 3호 건물은 철도청에서 필요로 하는 물자를 이동·보관하던 창고로 건립되었다. 건립 당시에는 '조달본부 대전 주재'로 불리다가 '철도청 대전지역 사무소 재무과 보급창고'로 명칭이 변경되었고, 다시 '구 철도청 대전지역 사무소 보급창고'로 변경되었다가 현재는 문화예술공간으로 사용되고 있다. 1956년에 지어졌으나 일제강점기 때 사용하던 기술이 그대로 적용되어 있다.

지붕틀의 각 부재가 삼각형을 단위로 짜여지는 트러스 목구조로 지붕을 만들고 건물 내부에도 기둥을 설치하지 않아 공간 활용성이 높고, 목재 널판으로 외부를 마감하여 통풍이 잘된다.

이러한 구조적 특징으로 희소가치가 높을 뿐만 아니라 해방 후 창고건축의 구조적 특징과 역사적 변천을 파악 할 수 있는 건축물로 보존 가치가 높다.

This storehouse was originally built to store materials used by the Daejeon Regional Office of the Korean Railroad Administration. The building was first named “Daejeon Branch ofthe Public Procurement Administration," but this was changed to "Procurement Storehouse of the Department of Financial Affairs, Daejeon Regional Office of the Railroad Administration," and again to its current name, "Former Storehouse No. 3 of Korea Railroad, Daejeon Regional Office." Now used as a venue for diverse cultural events, it was built in 1956 using the techniques introduced to Korea during the early twentieth century when the country was under Japanese colonial rule.

The framework of the roof structure is made with timber trusses so as to dispense with the need for interior columns, thus creating an unobstructed storage space. The walls are installed with wooden shingles for effective ventilation. 

The building has a number of structural features that are rarely seen nowadays, making it a valuable source of information on the architecture of Korean storehouses built in the early twentieth century.
